I have always liked listening to songs by Noel Cabangon. Granted, this was just a revival from another group, but it adds a different flavor to the familiar song. With his version, it just feels romantic yet so down to earth. It was as if your beloved is singing it directly to your ears.
I must admit, I’m no music critic. I can’t even differentiate the harmonic scale from the pentatonic scale. Even if that is the case, I’ll boldly say that this is the best version I have heard. Heck, if I was any better in playing instruments, I’ll even make a cover of my own. But unfortunately, I can’t. I won’t even attempt to make one to avoid sacrilege on this oh-so-awesome song.
And so, as I simmer the stupor of my own drunkenness (just came home from a drinking spree with office buddies), even though this has been on repeat on my playlist almost the whole day, even if the summer is just about to start, I find myself listening to it again. And hoping that one rainy day, I would get to cuddle with my special someone while singing her this song. “Tuwing umuulan at kapiling ka.”
